Sexual Offenses/Child Molestation

Sexual Offenses Defense Lawyer in Marietta, Georgia

T. Bryan Lumpkin, Attorney at Law
When Your Rights and Your Freedom Are on the Line

In Georgia, sexual offenses are considered serious violent felonies and are strictly prosecuted. If you have been charged with a sex crime, you have everything to lose. Conviction for a serious violent felony carries a mandatory prison term, including a sentence with no parole and even the possibility of a life sentence. Another major consequence is the lasting stigma associated with sex crimes, including having to register as a sex offender and being subject to a variety of limitations on where you can work and live.

If you have been charged with a sex offense, contact my law office as soon as possible to discuss your situation. Your initial consultation is free.

Let My Unique Experience Work for You

I am attorney T. Bryan Lumpkin, and I represent people throughout the north Atlanta metro who have been charged with sex offenses including:

  • rape

  • child molestation

  • sexual battery

  • failure to comply with sex offender registry requirements

Allegations of sexual assault, child sexual abuse or any other sex offense are extremely serious. Building an effective defense calls for counsel who is experienced dealing with the issues specific to this area of criminal law, including child hearsay, the suggestibility of young victims, false accusations and forensic evidence.

As part of my unique former experience as a felony prosecutor for over a decade, I was assigned to a special unit devoted to Crimes Against Children, where I worked with investigators and received training about the issues specific to child molestation and sexual abuse.

By working with victims and their families, I developed an understanding of the emotional and legal issues involved in these cases. I draw on that experience and knowledge in my defense practice. I am often able to make contact with families and victims early on in many cases to clarify the issues and understand the terms of the situation. Where needed, I retain forensic experts to review the State's evidence including DNA evidence and child interviewing techniques. Familiar with the emotional component of sexual offense cases, I can effectively present my client's case before a jury.

Sex Offender Registry Issues

After a conviction for a sex offense, you may be subject to Sexual Offender Registry requirements. In Georgia, sex offender registration requirements are for life and typically include residency restrictions, work limitations and having your DNA on file. In addition, you are required to register with the local sheriff annually and anytime you move. If you fail to meet to Registry requirements, you can go to jail, and if you are found to have violated requirements a second time, you face a life sentence.

If the State has alleged that you violated the Sex Offender Registry requirements, turn to me for skilled and dedicated representation. I will carefully investigate your situation and challenge the allegation on all applicable grounds. I also favor finding creative solutions and can assist you by working with local law enforcement to find approved housing.

It is possible for certain individuals to petition to be removed from the Sex Offender Registry. To learn more, or to schedule a free initial consultation about your sex crimes case, contact my office today.
